Who we are

Lifeline Technologies (LT) is a for profit social enterprise that develops robust, solar and wind-up products that provide on-demand access to information anytime, anywhere. We provide the only fit-for-purpose media player and radio for rural classrooms – improving livelihoods through improved literacy and numeracy.

Our mission is to provide technology solutions for off-grid learning.

Aligned with the UN Millenium Development Goals, our focus areas tackle Universal Education, Energy Poverty, Health, Agriculture and Food Security. We are a registered supplier to the US Government and the United Nations. Our Prime radio is used in education initiatives by Unicef - with whom we have a long term supply agreement, as well as other UN agencies worldwide.

The link between poverty and the lack of access to clean, modern energy is profound. Energy for lighting and communications are basic needs – and out of reach for millions of people around the world.

Children and teachers alike benefit from on-demand access to excellent education resources any time, anywhere and as many times as they need them.

  • A farmer listens to the radio for news of the incoming cyclone, ready to spread the alarm to her neighbours.
  • A child, orphaned by conflict and caretaker of his younger brothers, is soothed by voices on the radio as they fall asleep at a refugee camp.
  • An affordable mobile phone charger ensures that phones are always able to receive a call - or make one without walking long distances or paying excessive recharging fees.
  • For many people living in poverty, radio is their lifeline, providing information that can mean the difference between life and death.

Trading with a Conscience

Through a close partnership with our shareholder, the Lifeline Energy (LE), we have an impeccable development, distribution and implementation record earned through 13 years of active distribution and project implementation of appropriate technology products in the developing world.

Profits generated by our commercial activities are donated to Lifeline Energy, a registered charity, in support of their work.

Our Solutions

Our solar-powered and wind-up Prime Radio and Lifeplayer MP3 player provide sustainable access to information and education. Since 2003, LE has distributed more than 450,000 radios, conservatively reaching twelve million listeners. Our projects address the pressing needs of orphans and other vulnerable children, women, refugees and people who are ill.

With access to information, education and light, people seize educational and economic opportunities to improve health, create jobs and advance quality of life. We are committed to act as stewards of the environment to make clean energy technologies available to those in need to assist them in achieving these goals.

To help meet the need and demand for portable clean energy sources, we will soon be expanding into the renewable lighting sector.

Our Solarstor solar charger range provides an affordable, rugged and compact energy harvesting and storage product. The Solarstor range powers community GSM or CDMA phones without grid access - or personal mobile phones. Accessories extend the Solarstor beyond simple phone charging, allowing it to deliver LED light,AA battery recharging or small fans.
